Installation of Civic HID lights

For auto enthusiasts, particularly the Honda Civic lover, one new hot trend that has developed on the market over the past few years has been Civic HID lights. The HID, or high-intensity discharge headlights, are lights that are exceptionally bright, have a wider viewing range, and come through the heating of a special inert gas called xenon.

HIDs first came on the market in 1991 when BMW introduced the 7 Series, and ever since civic HID lights have become a popular addition to these beloved vehicles. Very often this system is not just enjoyed because of how great it looks or functions, but also because Civic HID lights are easy to install. Adding one to your Honda is simple, but does require mounting a special ballast that will take the Civics’ existing 12v DC battery and convert it into a higher power capable of igniting the xenon gas.

In addition to the Civic HID lighting, Honda owners are also now combining this with the increasingly popular LED lighting technology. LEDs have become a powerful tool in lighting for vehicles due to its amazing durability, its cost effectiveness, and its remarkable energy efficiency. Because they do not have filaments, LEDs have been used in a wide variety of unique ways and because they are solid they are perfect for use in vehicles. When combining LEDs with HIDs the result is a wonderful bluish white glow that is achieved when assembling the LEDs in a circle and placing them over what is called a projector ring, or HALO.

Although it is very simple to install Civic HID lighting, it is important to note that you should first make sure your working area is safe.. This can be done by making sure that your Honda is turned off, your battery is unplugged, and you have waited for your engine to completely cool off before beginning.

Taking out the Halogen bulb

To start, first replace the old halogen bulb with a xenon bulb by finding the Civic’s low beam dust cover. This can be found in the far back of the headlight assembly. You can remove the light’s cover by twisting it, and once you have done so you should be able to reach the halogen bulb. Remove it by disconnecting it from the car’s wiring.

Installing the new ballast

Completing installation will require you to first mount the xenon ballast in an area that is safe, and because your Civic was not originally created with this new lighting in mind you will have to find a spot that is secure and out of the way. Keep in mind that you will also need to find a location that is within range of both the bulb, and the wiring.

Once you have adequately mounted the ballast, plug in the new xenon bulb. Be careful that you do not handle the bulb’s glass surface.
After completing the HID kit installation go back through and ensure that all connections are tight and the ballast mounting is secure. When this is done, test your new Civic HID lights.
